At present, the substitute ocher used for medicine is often oolitic hematite ore containing quartz detritus or hematite ore containing quartz and feldspar detritus, with an iron content of 53.63%-65.42%. Calcined ocher is distributed in Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan and other places. Calcined ochre has no significant difference in medicinal properties from raw ochre, and has the effects of calming the liver and suppressing adverse reactions, cooling blood to stop bleeding, regulating qi and relieving pain. It can be used clinically for headaches and dizziness caused by hyperactivity of liver yang. It is often used in combination with keel, oyster, white peony and other drugs.
