Details :
    Cuscuta is the dry mature seed of Cuscuta australis R.Br. or Cuscuta chinensis Lam. It is the dry mature seed of the annual twining parasitic herbaceous plants Cuscuta grandis and Cuscuta yunnanensis (Cuscuta dodder). Mostly parasitic on herbaceous or woody plants. All are wild. The shape is similar to the above species, but the grains are larger, with a diameter of about 3 to 5 mm. When observed with a magnifying glass, there are irregular short-line markings on the surface. Embryos unset after seed coat peeled off. After soaking in water, it becomes gelatinous. No gas, slightly astringent taste. It is better to have full granules and grayish yellow. It is produced in most parts of the country. It has the effects of nourishing the liver and kidney, strengthening essence and reducing urination, preventing miscarriage, improving eyesight, and stopping diarrhea. External use has the effect of eliminating wind and freckles. Commonly used for liver and kidney deficiency, soreness of the waist and knees, impotence and nocturnal emission, enuresis and frequent urination, kidney deficiency and fetal leakage, restless fetal movement, dizziness and tinnitus, spleen and kidney deficiency and diarrhea; external treatment of vitiligo.

       Clinical application:
       1. Treat kidney deficiency and frailty, including yin deficiency and yang deficiency, but it is more commonly used to invigorate kidney yang. Cuscuta is tonic but not strong. It can be used with other yang-boosting drugs such as psoralen, eucommia, and pilose antler to treat spermatorrhea, premature ejaculation, back pain, frequent urination, etc., and it still has a good effect, such as dodder pills. In addition, for those with chronic nephritis and low back pain due to kidney deficiency, Cuscuta can be added with dog ridge in the treatment prescription. As for the treatment of kidney yin deficiency, it is combined with Rehmannia glutinosa, cornus officinalis, etc.
       2. To treat both spleen and kidney deficiency, manifested as loss of appetite, loose stool or diarrhea, take dodder seed which has antidiarrheal effect, and often add lotus seeds, yam, poria, codonopsis, etc. For chronic nephritis with both spleen and kidney deficiency, dodder is often used with raspberry, dog spine, codonopsis, astragalus, fleece-flower root, sealwort, plantain, eclipta, roasted licorice, etc.
       3. To treat fetal movement due to kidney deficiency and threatened miscarriage, whichever has the effect of tonifying the kidney and preventing miscarriage is often used with Chuanduan, Sangjisheng, Eucommia, etc. To treat irregular menstruation due to kidney deficiency, less menstrual flow, and early or delayed menstruation, use Cuscuta, Motherwort and Bazhen Decoction.
       4. For ophthalmology, it mainly treats blindness and vertigo caused by deficiency of liver and kidney.
