   Fotanmu is the dry whole plant of Polygonum chinense L. in the family Polygonaceae (Polygonaceae). The pattern of "V" is like a flame, and the fruit is as black as charcoal after ripening, with a layer of transparent fleshy persistent perianth on the surface, hence the name "Fire Tanmu". It is pungent, bitter, cool in nature, and returns to the liver and spleen meridian. It has the effects of clearing away heat and dehumidification, cooling blood and detoxification, benefiting the liver and improving eyesight, relaxing meridians and activating blood circulation. It is mainly used for diarrhea, dysentery, cough due to lung heat, sore throat, hepatitis, Eczema, otitis media, etc., are mainly distributed in Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places. Fotan mother is easy to grow in humid and dark environments, and it is more common in valleys and watersides. The pharmacological effect of Fotanmu is that it mainly contains chemical components such as flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, phenolic acids, and steroids. These are the material basis for exerting pharmacological effects. It has pharmacological effects such as inflammation and pain relief, anti-oxidation, anti-hepatitis B virus, and antibacterial. It also has pharmacological effects such as relaxation on smooth muscle and skeletal muscle, scavenging free radicals, anti-liver cancer, inhibiting the expression of EB virus capsid antigen, anti-cytotoxicity, and anti-diarrhea.
       Fotanmu is a commonly used folk medicine, especially in Lingnan area, and its curative effect has been well received. Some folks use it to treat acute and chronic dysentery, and some people use it to make soup and tea to treat unclear heat sensation. Fotanmu is also one of the traditional recipes of a certain herbal tea in Guangdong (gangmeigen, light bamboo leaves, five-finger mandarin orange, mountain sesame, cloth slag leaves, golden sand rattan, golden cherry root, wood butterfly, money grass, fotanmu). Cantonese herbal tea has the effect of dispelling wind and clearing heat, dispelling dampness and relieving summer heat. It is mainly used to treat seasonal colds. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, stagnant damp heat, dry mouth and red urine. Among the people, some people have treated malaria with Guangdong herbal tea.

       Efficacy and role of charcoal mother:
       Clearing away heat and detoxification, promoting dampness and eliminating stagnation, cooling blood and relieving itching, improving eyesight and reducing nebula.
       Fo Tanmu Indications:
       Treat dysentery, enteritis, hepatitis, dyspepsia, cold, tonsillitis, whooping cough, pharyngitis, diphtheria, corneal clouding, fungal vaginitis, leucorrhea, mastitis, boils, impetigo in children, eczema, snake bites. The dosage is 15-30g. External use appropriate amount of fresh products smashed and applied to the affected area.
       Fo Tan mother choice:
       1. Treatment of acute gastroenteritis: 9g each of Fotanmu and Fengweicao, 6g each of Haijinsha and Liuerling. Decoction in water, 1-2 doses per day.
       2. Treatment of diphtheria: 150g of fresh leaves of Fotanmu, 5ml of honey. Smash the fresh leaves to extract 30ml of juice, add honey for 1 day, and take 5-6 times in divided doses. Severely ill patients were fed with a small amount and several times. The course of treatment is generally 2 to 4 days. Avoid frying and frying food while taking the medicine.
       3. Treatment of bronchitis in children: 60g of Huotanmu, wild peanuts (small wild peanuts), 15-30g each of Agrimony, Zizhucao, and Houttuynia cordata, 9g each of loquat leaves and scutellaria leaves, and 3g of licorice. Decoct in water for 2 times, and take it in 3 to 4 times. 4. Heatstroke prevention: 2 parts of Futanmu, 1 part each of Echinacea vine and Didancao, appropriate amount of licorice. The total amount of adults is 30g each time, decocted in water instead of tea.
       5. Treatment of corneal clouding and leukoplakia: 50g each of Fotanmu and Shigonggonggong, add 2000ml of water, fry for 4-5 hours, filter and concentrate to 150ml, and then filter. The liquid pH is between 5.5 and 6. Eye drops every 2 hours, the course of treatment is 1 to 2 months. The medicinal solution should be changed every 3 to 5 days, and it will become invalid after the expiry date.
       6. Treatment of fungal vaginitis: Fotan mother 30g, boiled in water for sitz bath; Fo Tan mother powder, sprayed locally after washing. The two are used alternately, 3 to 5 times as a course of treatment.
       7. Cervical cancer treatment: 120g Fotanmu, 60g Maoberry, 30g Langyu slice, 12g Cnidium. Decoction in water. Take 120g of cycad leaves and 12 pieces of jujube first, and then take this prescription.
