    Banlangen, the name of traditional Chinese medicine. It is the dry root of Isatis indigotica Fort., a cruciferous plant. It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxification, cooling blood and relieving sore throat. Indications for fever due to exogenous pathogenic factors, early onset of febrile disease, sore throat, plaques caused by febrile toxins, mumps, erysipelas, carbuncles and sores. Banlangen has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and relieving sore throat. Banlangen can be used for exogenous wind-heat or febrile disease at the beginning, and can relieve fever, headache, sore throat and other symptoms.
       Banlangen first appeared in "Xinxiu Materia Medica" and is the dried root of the cruciferous plant Isatis indigo. Mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui and other places. It is usually excavated in autumn, dried in the sun after removing the sediment, sliced, and generally used raw. Banlangen is also sometimes called orchid root, blue root, banlangen, daqinggen. Banlangen is cold in nature and bitter in taste, and it is a common medicine for cooling blood and detoxification. It can be used alone or together with honeysuckle, Nepeta and other medicines for evacuating wind-heat.
